Tai Chi up, falls down

The following article was publised in the November 2011 addition of The Senior newspaper.

Residents of Bindawalla Gardens and Kurrajong Sanctuary are some of the most balanced people around, thanks to regular Tai Chi classess in the community hall.

Movements are never forced, muscles are relaxed rather than tense, joints are not fully extended or bent, and connective tissues are not stretched.

Tai Chi can be adapted for anyone, from the very fit to those in wheelchairs or recovering from surgery.

Studies indicate seniors who practice Tai Chi are less likely to suffer falls.

Residents have noted benifits including: improved motion and flexibility; lowering blood pressure; better quality sleep; more relaxed disposition; enhanced mental capacity and focus; energy increase; and reduced pain levels, especially with arthritis pain.
